PROJECT K
I’ve been a little cheeky by adding this because it’s not really a ‘moment’ but it’s a personal moment that brings together my experience in TV and music.
Seizing an opportunity provided by Bertelsmann, the parent company of BMG and numerous other entities, I pitched PROJECT K—a pioneering collaboration between BMG and Bertelsmann's Fremantle, a leading TV production company. Recognising the absence of a major boyband in the UK since One Direction and the booming $5 billion-a-year idol industry in South Korea, PROJECT K aims to bridge these worlds.
The concept revolved around a new reality talent show that transports budding male and female UK artists to South Korea to undergo the "K Pop Process." This immersive journey into the heart of K-Pop would cover everything from Idol Academies and fashion to dance and music production. Each episode introduces a fun, themed challenge related to an aspect of the K-Pop industry, driving the show's narrative forward.
By the series' conclusion, the aim was to unveil the next leading boy and girl groups, freshly signed by BMG, thus tapping into the global K-Pop phenomenon while filling a significant gap in the UK music market.
